Hot on the heels of the recent rise of hockey at St George’s Anglican Grammar School, Australian Rules has arrived.
On the last day of July, an excited bunch of Year 9 and 10 students represented St George’s in its inaugural AFLW team, The Dragons, competing against four schools in the Associated & Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) Girls Freo Dockers Cup.
The students were kitted out in style, with custom-made jumpers, hoop socks and shorts in signature St George red. Most were newcomers to the game, fielding a 20-strong team coached by Physical Education Teacher, Miss Amy Perejmibida, who plays for the Perth Football Club on weekends.
The Dragons won two of their first four games, an excellent result for a new team.
‘We enjoyed the challenge and can’t wait to compete again,’ said Head of Physical Education, Ms Jodie Scheele.
