Operation op shop and anglicare sleepout raises over $20,000
Peter Carnley Anglican Community School (PCACS) held its annual ‘Operation Op Shop’ event on 9 August 2024, followed by students participating in the Anglicare Schools Sleepout at Optus Stadium. The School community united to support Anglicare by raising awareness and an impressive $20,000—its highest total ever. Special recognition went to Deputy Head Prefect Christopher Argentino, who raised $7,612, making him the second-highest individual fundraiser for the event.
In the lead-up to Operation Op Shop, the PCACS community generously donated good-quality clothing for the Op Shop appeal. The School’s YMAD (Youth Making a Difference) students, led by Service Learning Coordinator Mrs Melanie Hunt, organised and set up the sale. On the day, students dressed in their best Op Shop fashion and donated a gold coin to participate.
Engaging activities filled the day, including lawn games during lunch and a soup kitchen serving staff and students. A lively fashion parade allowed students to showcase their creative outfits, adding to the festive atmosphere.
‘Operation Op Shop embodies our core values of belonging, respect, spirituality, and excellence. This event not only fosters community and compassion but also demonstrates our commitment to positively impacting the wider community,’ said Ms Felicity House, Principal.
After the event, 39 students and four staff members joined the Anglican Schools Sleepout at Optus Stadium, continuing the School’s support for Anglicare’s important work.
