Training a winner for Caitlin

Swan Valley Anglican Community School Year 12 student Caitlin Whittle topped off a year of achievement by winning the Australian School-based Apprentice of the Year at the Australian Training Awards. Caitlin attended the national awards at the Sydney International Convention Centre in November. Over 750 people gathered to celebrate the nation’s best in vocational education and training (VET) sector.

Caitlin qualified for the national awards after taking out the WA School-Based Apprentice award earlier in the year at the WA Training Awards. As part of her award, Caitlin received a $3,000 study grant. Caitlin has juggled studying five ATAR subjects with a Certificate II in Hospitality and credits the experience with increasing her confidence and dedication, and has seen her grades improve as a result. She is a strong advocate for Swan Valley Anglican Community School’s hospitality program.

Swan Valley Anglican Community School was strongly represented at the WA Awards with Year 12 student Jess Haydon also shortlisted as a finalist for Vocational Student of the Year. Although Jess didn’t win his category, to have been shortlisted as a finalist was outstanding, particularly given that other finalists in his category were not all school-based. The ceremony was held at Crown Perth with over 600 guests in attendance.
