Making Climbing Cool for Middle School

Middle School students at Cathedral College Wangaratta have sparked the creation of innovative age-appropriate climbing equipment, motivated by a desire for more sophisticated play opportunities during break times.

In collaboration with landscape architect and parent Mrs. Jenny Kjar, a dedicated group of Middle School students served as a focus group, channelling their creativity and aspirations into tangible ideas. Together, they conceptualized a design that resonated with their vision—a design that would materialize into a striking piece of art.

With the guidance of local artist Xavier Pinard from Yackandandah, the project took shape throughout 2023. The collective effort, generously supported by the P&F, culminated in the installation of the climbing equipment, complemented by industrial blocks and boulders configured as a mini parkour course.

Since its completion, the new play precinct has emerged as a focal point of activity and aesthetics.
