Spotlight on: Rachael Stone, Librarian – St James’ Anglican School

I am the Librarian at St James’ Anglican School. I first joined the School a year after it opened in 2015, and it’s been a privilege to be part of the journey and witness the growth of our community as we look ahead to our 10-year anniversary next year.

My first role here was as an Education Assistant in Pre-Primary. Having seen the transformative power of reading first hand while working as an EA, I wanted to extend my experiences outside the classroom and with a wider age range of students.

Working in the Library is an absolute delight. I am deeply passionate about cultivating literacy skills for all students, and the Library is the perfect facilitator. I love that amidst the bustling pace of student life; the Library stands as a haven for tranquillity and exploration. It’s such a thrill to work in a place that is a hub for learning, collaboration, and leisure.

This is the fourth iteration of the Library at St James’ – we commenced in a small demountable building and were also based in the Science block and Administration building. The journey to our own dedicated facility with a collection exceeding 8,000 books spanning various genres and academic levels has been remarkable, to say the least!

When I’m not in the Library, you will find me reading (obviously), walking the dog, or participating in Pilates. I am also a wedding celebrant, which is such a rewarding and fulfilling experience. It’s incredible to have the opportunity to help people create and share their special day, and to be a part of such a joyous occasion.
